Mind Your Language

Just recalled a nice British comedy series I liked to watch when I was in primary school recently. It was called "Mind Your Language", and the show revolves around an English teacher, his students from China, Japan, Pakistan, India, Italy, France, Germany etc. and his female boss. I really liked it in the past and now I appreciate the jokes better. It plays around racial and national stereotypes so it is not exactly "politically correct". However, it's still one of my favorite shows of all time. After some online research I realised that the lead actor, the teacher, has already passed away. I've also found out that the actress playing the role of the communist-supportive Chinese lady is actually from Penang!

On a more serious note, I wonder if there'll be a day when people around the world can just watch shows like this without getting offended. I'm sure if there was a show in Malaysia that tried to play out Malay, Chinese and Indian stereotypes it'll sure to receive a strong backlash from the public, censorship board and the government. Oh well, people just ain't tolerant nowadays.

Here's a video from the pilot episode. You can search for more clips to view on youtube.
