NTU -- another step in my life

And so, another phase of my life has taken off...

NTU--Nanyang Technological University... The place that I will be staying/studying for the next 4 years.

Been rather busy for the past few days, so I didn't set up my new laptop until yesterday. About 2 weeks has passed since I last blogged, so I won't be able to write much liao. I'll blog about my orientation and my first week in uni by 7th August. Watch this space!

#####******#####
1st day... nothing unusual... came down to Singapore from Batu Pahat. NTU was fairly easy to find. My hostel room is so-so loh... can be rather hot sometimes, and we only have 2 lousy oscillating wall fans. Hm, a picture speaks a thousand words rite? I'll say more after I buy a card reader.

Did most of the administrative stuff and medical check-up on 1st day of Hall Orientation. So I missed out a bit. Didn't wanted to go at first, but Eric persuaded me. Continue next time... for now, some photos from the orientation...

Whoa, the weekend's around the corner and I've yet to pack! So I'm starting to park now. =P I guess there's not much to rush about actually... I'm beginning to wonder how it would be like in uni, and that makes me feel like how I felt before going to JC. Whole new experience...

顺时针 by 梁咏琪Anyway, I've bought my first Chinese album. I like 梁咏琪's voice, even though I don't know many of her songs. And the fact that there are 2 CDs + a VCD, I think it's a good deal.

Red Cabbage Salad!!! (plus carrots)I kinda like cooking, but I'm very lousy at preparing the cooking materials, chopping stuff etc. I still managed to make a red cabbage salad today though (with my mom's help of course). It tastes a bit sour though.

So London won the rights to hold the 2012 Summer Olympics... and it got bombed the next day. Oh dear... I convey my condolences to the victims of the bomb attacks. G8 seems to be more intent on helping the hardcore poor in Africa (and also lending some help to Palestine!). But untimately, only the people of Africa can help themselves. What's the use of aid and money when most of it goes to corrupted politicians (very prominent in most of Africa)? Hopefully the money and aid goes to where it is needed.

Just came back from Majlis Makan Malam KSKUiTTHO (Kelab Staff KUiTTHO dinner ceremony). I got to attend it because there was a prize-giving ceremony for the academic achievements of KUiTTHO staff's children. It was boring for most of the time and the food wasn't nice, but some of the performances were good. One was the saxophone performance and the other was this guy who played a double necked guitar--absolutely fabulous! Got a really nice jazz feeling to it. I was so mesmerised, I fantasized felt that it would be really romantic awesome if i could be at a chic restaurant eating a candlelight dinner with someone i love with this music in the background...

image from http://www.music123.com/OLP-MM612-i149986.music Well... there were other interesting things that I wanted to show through pictures, but unfortunately, the worse thing that could happen to a photo-blogger happened--I forgot to bring my digital camera! Didn't get to take the interior of Katerina Hotel with the chandeliers, the pretty ladies dressed up in traditional costumes...

Ok, anyway, the funniest / stangest thing was during the last cabutan bertuah (lucky draw). It was the giving away of the second prize. Nombor 653! no one came... Nombor 247! no one came... Nombor 351! etc. for 6~7 times before there was a winner! Well, it's probably because many people had left earlier (it was getting boring when there was no food/drinks + no music). Oh well... another thing i have to mention is that many people were happily (noisily) chatting when the rector of KUiTTHO was presenting his speech. Have they no manners?! I would've been rather ashamed, because apart from the staff of KUiTTHO, there was also a visiting professor from Canada attending the ceremony. Bah! Malaysians manners!

My bro is back home, after 3 months of industrial training in Penang.

Went to watch a movie with my bro today... "Batman Begins". It's a nice show! Haven't watched such a nice show in a long, long time... My bro (who watched it for the 2nd time today), said there was good character development throughout the show, and I acknowledge that. There were some big shot actors in the show as well. It was exciting to watch, and the flow of the movie was not too hasty nor too slow. It portrayed the human side of Batman/Bruce Wayne nicely. Definitely a movie worth watching!
My rating: **** 1/2 out of *****!

Now to some other stuff... The police recently raided the commune of a deviant sect called "Sky Kingdom" in Terengganu, but its leader, known to his followers as Ayah Pin (real name Ariffin Mohamad) eluded the police. The police said that there was nothing to worry and they were sure he was still in the country. The resourceful media however, took a step further and reporters from The Star had an interview with him at a coffeeshop. Quoting from Utusan Malaysia Online:
...Ariffin berkata, beliau mampu membunuh seseorang melalui pemikirannya.
"Katakanlah seseorang itu sedang menari dalam televisyen dan saya mahu dia mati, saya boleh buat dengan cepat walaupun dia berada di London. Namun begitu saya tidak mahu menggunakan kuasa itu,"

Translation:
...Ariffin said, he could kill someone using his mind.
"Let's say someone is dancing on TV and I want him dead, I can do so instantly even if he is in London. However, I do not want to use that power."

whoa... scary...

I've (finally) completed my blog entry for the Penang/ Langkawi trip. It's the post below this one.

My Batu Pahat friends are all over the country now; USM in Penang, UKM, UPM, UM in KL etc. It'll be rather hard to meet up in the future... They don't have 1-week holidays for the Chinese New Year in Singapore, and even if I do come back to Malaysia, I'll be off visiting my relatives up north. Hopefully technology can keep us in contact.

I was reading Mr. Brown's blog, and he had an entry about the famous "Engrish" phrase "All your base are belong to us". I know this phrase is not really popular now, but I still find it amusing. The phrase was a part of an early 90s video game called Zero Wing (produced in Japan, of course). Here's the transcript:

Narrator: In A.D. 2101, war was beginning.
Captain: What happen ?
Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb.
Operator: We get signal.
Captain: What !
Operator: Main screen turn on.
Captain: It's you !!
CATS(villain): How are you gentlemen !!
CATS: All your base are belong to us.
CATS: You are on the way to destruction.
Captain: What you say !!
CATS: You have no chance to survive make your time.
CATS: Ha Ha Ha Ha ....
Operator: Captain !!
Captain: Take off every 'Zig'!!
Captain: You know what you doing.
Captain: Move 'Zig'.
Captain: For great justice.

If you haven't cringed enough, here's a flash for you to watch. Enjoy!
