What Is Your World View?

You scored as Postmodernist.
Postmodernism is the belief in complete open interpretation. You see the universe as a collection of information with varying ways of putting it together. There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis.

Well, I've paid for a place at the AIESEC Miracle Youth Conference 2005. It sounds interesting, and since I've never been to such an event, it would surely be an eye-opener and wonderful experience to me (I hope so, at least). Managed to persuade Theng Wei to join me. Although I've gotten used to travelling alone to and fro Singapore, this would be the first time I cover long distances in Malaysia alone. And with the complications of transportation in Malaysia... it just might become an urban-orienteering adventure for me...lol...

Got an "urgent" email from BCA (Building and Contruction Agency), asking me if I am still interested in their scholarship, and they informed me to attend an interview in Singapore. At first I applied for this scholarship because I wouldn't know if I would get ASEAN. If i get their BCA-CIS scholarship they'll give me S$7,000 per annum (with 2 year bond), but they never mentioned about paying tuition fees. And since tuition fees amount to S$6,000+ even after tuition grant, ASEAN is much more worth it (tuition fees covered + S$4,300 annual allowance, no bond).

I've gotten some piano scores online because I've suddenly felt like learning a song or two (like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"-- yeah! Or "Fur Elise" by Beethoven). Didn't take me too long to find them... thank goodness! Gonna practice them now~

Went to Singapore on Saturday to go for the NUS Engineering Open House. Also to accompany Winnie... Met Ke Yeng on the bus on the way to NUS, but he was going for the Mechanical Engineering talk. Saw the list of people who got the Material Science and Engineering course in NUS, including: me, Winnie, Sin Siu, Adrian and Kok Vui. Helped Kok Vui get another set of the stuff. Kok Vui and Sin Siu didn't come because they were attending College Day in TJ.

The talk was so-so (partly because the speaker was a PRC... oops... I shouldn't generalise. But anyway, his English was good enough for a PRC..). Met Adrian at the talk too. Afterwards we had some food outside the classroom (mmm... the Eclairs were nice!!! Haha...).

Went to meet up with Yi Cheng, KV and OCM afterwards in cineleisure. They all decided to play pool (again! everytime i come to Singapore I play pool. Ha!). Haiz... not really playing very well still...

When Ching Mien came and Lita came slightly later we all went to have dinner. Yi Cheng suggested 'Yuki no Yaki' (Me: NOOOOOO!!!!!!). We ended up eating at Breeks, which was quite expensive too (my heart: *ouch*)... Talked a lot (talked about people learning Chinese, the interesting show "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" etc.)... The only irritating thing today was that the guys kept putting me and Lita together... So paiseh!!! Aiyoh....

Anyway, went to Vi's house kinda late. Vi is kinda worried now coz he hasn't got any news for ASEAN scholarship. But he told me the good news that Mun Yin got the NUS Industrial Design course that she wanted. Seihout showed me some clips of "South Park" he downloaded online. Damn funny!!

Sunday===> Wesak/ Vesak Day
Woke up late (10.15am). Packed my stuff and read some magazines before leaving. Had lunch with Vi and Seihout at a hawker centre. They were going to a temple. I went to Kinokuniya at Orchard, but after i looked around in Kino for awhile I quickly left, because the queue to pay for the books was 40ppl long. I would've been late if i bought something.

The journey back to BP was ok. Except that the person beside me on the bus from JB to BP was irritating... kept making sniffing sounds and put his dirty-looking leg on the back of the seat in front of him. Also put his feet occasionally on the seat. So 不雅观! Yucks...

Went to Theng Ying's(?) (亭茵) house to celebrate her birthday. Her dad knows my dad, her mom knows my mom and I know her brother. I passed Theng Wei a brochure about NUS Science faculty and courses, and I also met 小色狼 (just a nick) there...

And now I'm in front of my comp wondering the ultimate question of all again...
NUS or NTU??

####Tuesday#### (con't)
Aiyah, nothing much lah. Went swimming around 11.00am... which caused the pimples outbreak these few days (coz my skin is sensitive to intense sunlight). After that I stayed in the hotel room reading newspapers etc. Had lunch in McDonald's in Mahkota Parade. Did some clothes shopping after that (more like window shopping... *sigh* bo lui lah......)

Went back to hotel after that, and proceeded to the gym (it was not fully equiped... but ok lah...). Spent roughly 45 min in the gym. This had caused my arm muscles to be in pain for the next few days (quite serious... couldn't place my arm straight without feeling pain in my elbow and forearm).

Went somewhere simple to have dinner with my dad...

####Wednesday####
Dad put me off at Tesco while he went to visit a student. Bought a striped shirt...
That's all liao... Kinda boring day mah.....

Thursday, May 19, 2005

After reading my previous post, I've decided to cut things shorter. Ok then...

####Friday####(con't)
Well, we got off the bus at the wrong place (again... happened before during JC). Anyway, we weren't very late lah... In fact, we had to wait for the doors to open and it was getting very hot at the reception area.

The concert was OK. Can't comment too much or this blog entry will get too long. I found the song Bin-nam-ma interesting though... It was written by Alberto Grau (who wrote "Kasar Mie La Gaji"...*shivers* don't remind me of this song...). The Alumni choir didn't do very well unfortunately, but then again, it's good to see them. The Musical Medley part was formed from songs from West Side Story, Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera.

Went to eat at Newton circus after congratulating the juniors and meeting up with old choir-mates. Went back by cab.

####Saturday####
Woke up rather late. Had lunch with Vi and KV at Jurong Point (um... the food wasn't so nice...). Haha... we saw 钟琴! She's a Singapore TV actress cum host, and she was wearing these "angel wings" for this programme called 缘来是你. Went to meet up Jeffrey and Winnie after lunch. We had coffee at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at Suntec. Jeffrey had to leave so I had to teman(accompany) Winnie...haha... actually she teman me to Kino to buy a book (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), then I teman her to eat at The Coffee Club.

After that I went to meet up with KV, Vi and Minh Huong, except that they would be late. So I read the first few pages of my new book at Clementi while waiting for them. KV told me he would come later, so the rest of us went to look for a place to eat... which in the end was decided to be Pizza Hut. So much for me saying I wanted to save some money. Well, anyway, KV came finally and he was fed up about 2 PRCs that blocked his way in the MRT station... haha... We talked and talked... then we went to play pool. Yippie! I'm improving!!! Haha...

####Sunday####
Woke up rather early. Went straight back to Malaysia. Only dad was at home, because mom and my 2 sisters had gone to Sunway Petting Zoo. Nothing much to say. Packed up at night because I was going to Melaka the following day with dad.

####Monday####
Dad was going to Melaka to check in on his students that were serving their industrial attachments there. Century Mahkota Hotel's check-in time was 1pm~2pm and when we reached Melaka it was too early, but my dad had to visit his student, so he left me (all alone) at Mahkota Parade.

We checked in around 1-something pm. I mostly stayed in the hotel room and I slept the afternoon away... muahahaha. Had Ikan Bakar, Fried Squid and Sepahat for dinner...

####Tuesday####
will continue later~~

Just came back from Singapore today...
Ok, recap...

####Friday####
Bus leaves at 8am, so i woke up super early (relatively speaking). Reached Singapore around 11am. Reached Vi's (Visayon Viravong, Laotian) place around 12pm. Put my stuff at his place (rented). He's staying with a Cambodian, Seihout (sounds like "Say what?").

Went out with him to Orchard. Ate at the food court in Cineleisure. Minh Huong was supposed to join us, but she still wanted to sleep lah... (she slept at 4.30am loh... tsk tsk) Anyway, we were trying to find a bowling alley in Orchard, but we dunno where to find it. We found out after sometime that there used to be a bowling alley in cineleisure, but it closed down (that's why you can't reach the 9th floor of cineleisure using the lift).

Went to see Eric at LemonGrass at The Heeren, then went to Paragon to look at stuff. Vi was looking for what he would want as a birthday gift. Anyway, we met up with Minh Huong and then we went to Marche' (coz Huong wanted to eat). It's soooo expensive there lar... Aiyoh... Anyway, we just ate some stuff and then went to pay. I helped Vi pay first. I accidentaly gave the cashier RM10 instead of S$10! Aiyoh, so embarassing. I took it back and gave her another paper note. It was RM10 again!!! Alamak... DOUBLE embarassing lah... Ay... By the third time it was correct (thank goodness!)...

Went to buy flowers afterwards at cineleisure (because we were short of time and because we were thinking of taking a bus to ACS Barker. But in the end, we took the MRT and there was a shop selling flowers there lah! I'm sure it would've been much better than the cineleisure one. That person there was soo unprofessional and "blur".

Will continue later...

*sigh*... I've got the flu since yesterday... Argh!!! I MUST be better by Thursday if I am to go to Singapore on Friday...

There's a water crisis here in Batu Pahat and Kluang... SAJ (Syarikat Air Johor) cannot even provide us 24-hours water supply. Everyday there is sure to be a time when there is no water. Argh!!!

I found out that Ching Mien will not be in Penang when I'll be going there. He's going on a vacation. Oh well, nevermind then... gotta remember to search the net for where to eat! I miss Pasembor (a type of Rojak there)...

I've removed my "Straits Times" link because it is under paid subscription now. So no use linking there...

I know this is kinda belated, but:

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM!!!! LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!!!

Hope you are reading this!!!

This is a melancholic post.

The following is a conversation on MSN messenger:
Me: but I didn't get the letter.........
Friend: hmm... dun be sad if i tell you this
Me (sees it coming):only 4A ppl get?
Friend: yeah... for pure science students... onli 4 A ppl get the letter
Me: okie

So that's it. I'm not going to TJC on College Day. I'm really depressed right now. Sad but what to do? It's all my own fault. Of course I could've gotten 4As. I know my capabilities, and the teachers in school were great. But I was somehow complacent nearing the A levels. Why? I will never know.

I took College Day for granted. That's a terrible mistake. The higher you put your hopes on something, the greater your disappointment will be when you don't get it. A fact of life. But I guess I deserve this. You reap what you sow you know...

I dunno what else to say. Just really really depressed... should be better in a few days time...

Me and Chen Hoay set up a new "Special Interest Group" (SIG) in the ReCom forum. It's called "Singapore Life and Education". It's supposed to help people who want to know more about Singapore, ASEAN scholarships and the like, and basically how exactly stressful is it in Singapore (not very)! Not much response at the moment, but we'll try to spread the news. We're starting this because many people have a misconception about Singapore, thus shunning an education there...

Another thing (more personal)... Met Pin Kuan (秉光) when I went jogging near my secondary school. He was walking around the "track" and I was jogging when I saw him. I stopped to say hello and chatted with him. We talked quite a lot: about tertiary education, life after graduation, future aspirations and politics... We both realised we never talked to each other that much before (and he told me last time we sat beside each other in class. WHEN?!? My memory must be failing me...). It was nice talking to him. Glad I can open up to more people now. I have this shyness and introvert character that I'm trying to break out from...

Anyway, I've been surfing the net a lot these days, and I've come across some rather interesting sites.

1. This is a site about a couple from US (both 61 yrs old) that CYLCLED from Singapore up to Bangkok. They're moving on to Cambodia, Laos and probably China. I'm saying in this manner because they are STILL on their journey. There passed through Kota Tinggi, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bahru, Sungai Petani, Alor Setar, Kangar etc. on their trip up to Thailand. Interesting folk I would say. Interesting folk. They're inspiring me to try something similar too... perhaps during my uni life?

http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/journal/page/?o=as&page_id=19483&v=11w

2. Went to this link that was provided by a fellow ReCommer. Bo Yang gives an interesting insight to the problems that plague Chinese worldwide. However, he merely touches some issues here and there in this speech. I'm probably going to buy his book 《丑陋的中国人》(The Ugly Chinaman) soon.

The NUS acceptance letter has finally arrived, and i was surprised to find it so thick. Anyway, after reading the contents my headache is getting worse. There are some programmes in NUS that I find really interesting, like their oversease Students Exchange Progamme (SEP). But then again, it is difficult to get a place in their hostels.

NTU on the other hand has Aerospace Engineering which is really cool. They provide German lessons also, albeit I'm not sure of their SEP programmes. For NUS, it is much more clear and planned. But it is easier to get a hostel in NTU.

So how?

American Idol 4... Scott Savol is out! Not a supporter of him, but he did quite well for both his performances... he didn't deserved to be booted out based on his performance. Oh well, it's up to the Americans anyway...

Meredith and Gretchen are out of The Amazing Race 7... Really admire their tenacity. Coz both of them are retired (senior) citizens... and they were one of the 4 last teams.

Keep talking about TV coz I'm watching it everyday...
Keep going to ReCom too... *sigh*... I have no life man...

Oh... I've gotta start my guitar lessons soon!!! Only 3 months left until uni life starts (which reminds me: where the heck is my NUS letter?! Hope it comes tomorrow...)
